Sequoia Hospital has been certified by the Joint Commission, the leading accredited organization nationwide, as a Primary Stroke Center Program, offering Bay Area residents a coordinated response and specialized care 24 hours a day. Stroke is the third leading cause of death with nearly 160,000 patients dying each year, according to the Center for Disease Control.
The certification means that Sequoia Hospital has demonstrated its stroke services program follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.

Sequoia Hospital is proud to be one of six hospitals servicing San Mateo County designated as a primary stroke center. The San Mateo County Health Department’s Emergency Medical Services implemented a stroke center policy directing ambulances to transport acute stroke patients to primary stroke centers.
